Among its exclusive locations, starting in 2010 Capurro Ricevimenti is now offering the “Museoteatro” (Theatre-cum-Museum”) of the Commenda di San Giovanni di Prè, a unique venue in the old city centre of Genoa, steeped in history and culture, and one of the few medieval “ospitalieri” (hostels), still preserved in Italy.
The Commenda – approx.1180 – was an extension of a church initially dedicated to the Holy Sepulchre; it was a large hostel providing hospitality for crusaders leaving for or returning from the Holy Land, pilgrims and wayfarers.
After years of restoration work and archaeological research, the imposing area occupying three floors is now a “Museum-cum-Theatre.
Its great halls are equipped with sophisticated technological equipment installed for projections in the framework of museum activities but also enabling other fascinating events to be organised.
The rooms on the ground floor and on the two upper floors are excellent as venues for prestige events, of different sizes:
conferences, congresses, lunches, working and gala dinners, receptions, cocktail parties, theatrical and musical events, fashion shows and exhibitions. Guided tours of the interior can be organised for private groups.
The Church of Saint John which, was the original central religious core of the complex, is built on two levels and is one of the most beautiful and best preserved in the Ligurian region. The style is late Romanesque and was designed by the so-called Magistri Antelami (master architects of the school of Antelamo).
Thanks to its proximity to the Commenda building, it is possible to organise guided tours and events involving both facilities (baptisms, weddings, ceremonies, etc.).
The whole complex is in the centre of Genoa, very close to the Old Port, to the Maritime Museum, to the Aquarium and to the Genoa Principe train station.
